2018 Ford F-150 Charges Into Agawam, MA for a New Model Year

The latest iteration of the Ford light-duty pickup is here. With the lightweight, yet ultra-durable construction housing a powertrain showcase with capabilities to upend the class, on the face of it, the "Built Ford Tough" moniker barely grazes the surface.

A high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy design housing a fully boxed, up to 78-percent high-strength steel frame may enable 2018 F-150 to weigh in at up to 700 lbs. lighter than its 2017 sibling, but the new Ford truck remains a powerhouse.

Available engine options now number five, ready for whatever Mother Nature and the day's work orders send the new F-150 way here in Agawam. A 3.5-liter EcoBoost option pushes 470 pound-feet of torque with a max tow rating at the top of the class. There's also a high-performing 325-horsepower, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 available with a construction inspired by the time-honored Super Duty® Power Stroke Turbo Diesel. A new, efficient 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6 option pairs with a six-speed auto transmission offering selectable Normal, Tow-Haul, and Sport driving modes to take the 2018 Ford truck ride beyond the next level.

You can also opt for a powerhouse 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8, excellent for tough jobs thanks to the option to equip compatible packages, among them a CNG/Propane Gaseous Engine Prep conversion package and a Snow Plow Prep package. Last in line but first in output, an available twin-turbo, intercooled DOHC 24-valve, 3.5-liter EcoBoost in models like F-150 Raptor breezes past prior 6.2-liter V8 plants, shelling out 510 pound-feet of performance torque to pull a towering 450 horsepower.

But charge isn't all the new 2018 F-150 from Ford promises. It's also a bevy of smart hauling tech, well beyond the paragons of reliability that are AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) and trailer sway control, both standard. Intelligent options abound. Available Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps F-150 and its trailer work together during reverse maneuvering. The line-of-sight guide on the pickup's optional dynamic hitch assist feature helps direct you, truck to trailer, to ensure proper linking. Once you've done so, activate the optionally factory-installed trailer brake controller to put those of both in sync. An available smart trailer tow connector keeps you apprised of connectivity, lighting, and battery condition.

On the road, you can view trailer information with ease on the burgeoning optional 8-inch productivity screen, standard in Ford F-150 Lariat, King Ranch®, Platinum, and Limited. Plus, remaining apprised of vehicles approaching from the side as well as that of your tow is a matter of course when you go for a 2018 F-150 equipped with a BLIS® Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage.
